What are the Benefits of Blue Light Therapy?

Blue light therapy is a treatment that uses blue light wavelengths to penetrate the skin and kill acne-causing bacteria.

It has anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce redness and inflammation in the skin, making it an effective treatment for inflammatory acne and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Blue light therapy can also improve the texture and tone of the skin by promoting cellular turnover, leading to smoother and brighter skin.

Other benefits of blue light therapy include:

  • Treating skin disorders: Blue light therapy can be used to improve skin texture and reduce sebaceous hyperplasia, enlarged oil glands, sun spots, and even scars that were originally caused by acne.
  • Treating depression: Blue light therapy can also be used as a treatment for depression
  • Anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative effect: Blue light has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative effect, making it beneficial for hyperproliferative skin diseases such as psoriasis vulgaris, atopic dermatitis, and eczema.
  • Protecting against cell inflammation: Blue light therapy has been shown to protect against cell inflammation in mice when used before oxygen deprivation in their liver and kidneys.

Blue light therapy is a painless, noninvasive procedure that can be used to treat different conditions in an at-home environment.

It is generally safe, and is free from UV rays, so there is no evidence that it increases the risk of skin cancer or skin aging.

However, it is important to note that blue light therapy may not be effective for all types of acne, such as acne cysts, blackheads, and whiteheads.

Additionally, some research has found that blue light therapy may contribute to aging by causing free radical damage to the skin, when used with a skin sensitizer prior to light application.
